Brazilian jewelry designer Silvia Furmanovich has released a new collection inspired by the Art Deco movement, channeling its spirit of experimentation and cultural fusion.
Art Deco’s legacy meets modern craftsmanship
The collection, named Art Deco, connects the early 20th-century movement with Furmanovich’s creative approach. Her work treats jewelry as a conversation between craftsmanship, materials, and design.
Furmanovich found inspiration in the movement’s connection to modernity, its interest in global cultures, and its view that craftsmanship could progress alongside industrial advancements. Art Deco, which flourished from the 1920s to the 1940s, represented a shift in artistic thinking by blending industrial materials with traditional methods. The name came from the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris, where artists worked with unconventional materials like lacquer, coral, mother-of-pearl, and steel.
For this collection, she reinterprets that conversation by pairing artisanal methods with industrial influences. The pieces combine rare materials and detailed techniques—straw marquetry, Japanese Shibayama inlay, and iridescent beetle wings. Organic elements contrast with geometric precision, a defining feature of Art Deco style.
The materials—black palm wood, abalone, and mirrored surfaces—offer a modern take on luxury. The contrast between old and new appears intentional, suggesting a reflection on ornamentation in a world that values both tradition and progress.
Geometric patterns and global influences
The collection includes about 100 pieces with bold, structured designs. Fan-shaped mirror earrings set with garnet, diamonds, and onyx in 18-karat yellow gold reference the movement’s love of symmetry. A lacquered bamboo choker, accented with gold leaf, diamonds, and emeralds, merges East Asian techniques with Art Deco’s opulence. Butterfly-shaped mirror earrings and a Shibayama ring made from mother-of-pearl and gold highlight the blend of global influences.

A few notable pieces stand out. Ceramic bird earrings feature horsehair and diamonds. Marquetry earrings display floral motifs. A mushroom-shaped ring is carved with sky topaz, spessartite, and tsavorite. The Enchapado en Tamo cuff, set with diamonds and moonstone, uses straw marquetry to create depth in geometric patterns, echoing Art Deco’s chevron and mosaic designs.
Cultural references appear throughout. Egyptomania, Japonisme, and decorative arts appear alongside Furmanovich’s focus on nature. The brand calls the work a tribute to Art Deco’s optimism while examining what luxury means today: artistry, cultural exchange, innovation, and the drive to transform beauty.

Availability and pricing
The Art Deco collection premiered at Couture. It will launch on Furmanovich’s website and in U.S. stores in September, including at Bergdorf Goodman. Prices span from $6,800 to $18,800. A trunk show at Moda Operandi runs through August 7, allowing clients to pre-order pieces.
